Afon Ystwyth at Llanilar, a magical spot

A foundational element of the Stori Wyllt project has been to foster strong relationships between the schools, creatives and naturalists. This is why the initial Stori Wyllt Symposiwm was so important; an opportunity for practitioners to meet each other and ask questions.

On a gloriously sunny Thursday afternoon, I met up with ecologist Sheena Duller, artist Marian Haf and headteacher at Ysgol Llanarth, Jannette Jones.

We walked first past the village pond

Yellow flowers and green spiky foliage in the water

Marsh Marigolds in the village pond. I must admit, photo was taken on a cloudier, later day!

And then paste the LΓ΄n Cambria National Cycle Route, to the Afon Ystwyth. It is quite a magical place, and there was a studied silence amidst the barrage of ideas for workshops.

There are so many habitats in such a small area – a large body of still water, hedgerows, scrubby undergrowth, a stone beach and a river. And that’s before you look at the school grounds and the new wildlife forest garden!
